Introduction:

Today I am reviewing a cordless optical mouse. The Logitech MX 700. I know what you're thinking "a mouse review?". I thought the same thing till I started using it. It's very comfortable and precise for an optical mouse. It is also a very good looking mouse. The silver and black theme will go with most aluminum or black system setups very nicely. Even more so if you just happen to be an Oakland Raiders fan.

Observations:

The MX 700 comes complete with drivers and batteries (rechargeable NiMH). The base station serves as a recharger and receiver (RF rather than IR so line of sight is not required). It also has a whole butt load of buttons. Full Specifications.

These are the default settings for the mouse and so far I haven't found a need to change them. The cruise buttons (4 & 7) are extremely handy for viewing websites and I've found I'm using them more often than the scroll wheel now. The quick switch is a nice touch, but I have some trouble getting used to using it. I guess Alt-Tab just has me hooked for now. I like the back button but have little use for the forward button. I'll probably reprogram the forward button to something else but at the present time haven't. Battery life seems to be pretty good. I've yet to run it dead but then I have always remembered to put it in the charging stand so far. I've used it for 16 hours straight with no recharge so it should be just fine for 99% of you out there. When I first set it up it charged fully in about an hour although I didn't time it. The only problems I've had with Logitech are their drivers! No matter what or how I install them they always seem to cause some problems. This time they interfered with my KDS CD Organizer. As both devices are running off USB there was a conflict. Also the scroll wheel doesn't work in Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror, I have to switch weapons with the cruise buttons instead. It can be done but it's not as fast. For comparison's sake I took a picture with some other Logitech Mice. From left to right they are: Mouseman Wheel (my favorite mouse of all time), the MX700 and a standard Wheel Mouse. All of them are of the optical type.

Conclusion:

All said and done this is a very nice product. And like I said earlier it's comfortable and precise. The colors go extremely well with my black Logitech cordless keyboard and my Ratpadz. Other than the driver problem this is one great product. If it weren't for that it would rate higher but as it stands I think I have to go with a rating of 6/10!
